Plot synopsis: The movie consists of four novellas. The first novella, "Wedding March," portrays a non-classical love triangle between a father-film director, his son-student, and the father's mistress who is also the bride of the son. The second novella, "Exercise No.5," shows a film crew waiting for the weather to clear up. While waiting, they indulge in coffee, personal problems, and adultery, all of which are caught on camera. The third novella, "Trofim," is a typical Russian story where a man, jealous of his wife's affection towards his brother, kills him with an axe and flees to St. Petersburg, where he is caught and ends up in a brothel. The final novella, "The Road," follows two refugees wandering around the train stations of the capital. One is a Russian singer, and the other is an organizer and accompanist. They attract the attention of a new Russian.

Plot twist: In the first novella, the son discovers that his father's mistress is also his bride-to-be, leading to a dramatic confrontation. In the second novella, the camera that was forgotten to be turned off captures the crew members committing a crime. In the third novella, the man who killed his brother is revealed to be a former KGB agent. In the final novella, the new Russian turns out to be a music producer and offers the two refugees a recording contract.
